Hands-on review

94 tests, a fuzz target, a licence audit config and blocking plus async APIs — in a crate with no stars at all. The most thorough small SDK here.

Good for

  • Rust services wanting typed decisions with both async and blocking APIs
  • Anyone who judges a dependency by its test and audit setup
  • All three question types, with criteria types rather than loose maps

Watch out for

  • Zero stars: thorough, but unused
  • Nine commits, one author, days old
  • We could not exercise the live path, only the types and offline tests

Tested Sep 20, 2026 at e151485b80a2 · Rust in Docker; 94 tests across its suites, offline

The repository was renamed from kunobi-ninja/kunobi-jev to kunobi-ninja/kunobi-decision after we reviewed it; the old address redirects. The review below is of the version we tested.

How we reviewed this: we ran its test suites in Docker — 94 tests passing across the crate, with two ignored — and read the public types. We made no Jev calls.

What it does

kunobi-jev, from kunobi.ninja, is a Rust client for the System One API. It covers all three question types with real types rather than loose maps (NoulCriteria rather than a string map), offers both an async client and a blocking one, ships examples, and — the part that stood out — includes a fuzz target and a deny.toml for dependency and licence auditing.

That is a level of care we have not seen in any other client this size. Apache-2.0 licensed, and published on crates.io (0.2.0 at the time of writing).

What to know

Nobody is using it. Zero stars, nine commits, one author. Everything above says the code is careful; none of it says the API has been exercised against the real service at volume.

Verdict

If you write Rust and want this, read it — it is better engineered than several clients with a hundred times the attention. Then decide whether you are comfortable being an early user.

For the other clients, see the Community SDKs.
